Excel has always had an eccentricity with regard to the initial setting of Calculation. It is set from the setting that was saved in the first workbook that is opened in a session. So, for example, if you have a personal macro workbook and it is the first workbook to be opened, calculation will be set to the setting saved in that workbook. To correct the situation, work out what is the first workbook to be loaded, open/select it, changeĀ calculation to Automatic and save it. Microsoft Excel MVP, Oxford, England.

Yo, Everyday I've been riding the train to work, having to suffer a complete forty minutes balancing my nostril glands between the luxurious, over-odorous scent of Foodies and near-trash homeless. Upon my arrival at the station, I hear the crack of the doors open and sprint out in avoidance of the masses in hopes of getting into work so that I can begin my day by creating value for society in the field of Finance. As I brew my fresh, Arabica Keurig brewed K-Cup and feast upon Great Value Cashew Halves and pieces, I pull my Dell Laptop out of the grey, second-tier steel drawer and log into my computer.
Assuming my log in is successful, I begin my day by clicking on the pinned Excel 2013 shortcut on my toolbar straight outta Windows 7, and low and behold! My default setting for my calculations is by default set to 'Manual'. I take 5 seconds out of my day, and swiftly change the setting to 'Automatic Except for Datatables'.
Workbook after workbook I continue to shut down the dreaded 'Manual' Calculations, but the setting keeps popping back up. So for the past four months at work, literally every time I've opened a new or existing workbook, I have to go to FileOptionsFormulas'Automatic Except Data Tables' I've probably had to do this at least, (again not kidding) 1,000 times. I've tried asking around at my office, and I get 'Idk man, that's a good question' from everyone. I also tried Google, and got nothing but nonsensical answers. I even tried the big M itself, and they didn't understand the question and simply told me to do what I've been doing.
I come here to humbly ask you of reddit excel, do you guys know how to change the default calc setting on Excel 2013 from 'Manual' to 'Automatic Except Data Tables'? Thank you and Bless you by the grace of God.
